Former U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Turns Entrepreneur with Unique Mobile Tattoo Studio
For many, the transition from military service to civilian life poses numerous challenges. However, for retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Daniel Wright, Jr., art became the key to overcoming the wounds of war and starting a new chapter as an entrepreneur. Born in Newark, NJ, Staff Sergeant Wright served multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, receiving the Purple Heart after being wounded in action during his deployments.
Upon retirement in 2014, Staff Sergeant Wright sought solace in art, leading him to establish Marzmade, a one-of-a-kind mobile tattoo studio housed in a converted school bus. This unique venture not only serves tattoo enthusiasts but also extends a special focus on veterans and military non-profits. Traveling between New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Marzmade encapsulates Staff Sergeant Wright’s journey of healing and self-discovery through art.
I brought a sprinter and converted it myself to a mobile tattoo studio, explains Staff Sergeant Wright. I’ve traveled the world tattooing clients such as Landon Collins from the NY Giants, NY rapper Maino, Chris Brown’s DJ Lance Sevalis, alongside touring with Chris Brown himself.
Interestingly, the Marzmade brand goes beyond tattooing. The Wright family has been recognized for their charitable work, including donating tattoos to wounded veterans globally. Their commitment to service has earned them accolades, including the Presidential Volunteer Award from President Biden.
Looking ahead, Staff Sergeant Wright envisions franchising his mobile tattoo studio and expanding the impact of their non-profit arm, Service and Ink. The long-term goal aligns with partnering with organizations to aid in veteran suicide prevention, a cause close to his heart.
